Holy-water stoup of cast iron listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: IM10013596]: "Bénitier [...] Fonte de fer [...] H = 48,5 ; d = 63,5 [...] 16e siècle (?) ; 1er quart 17e siècle (?) [...] Rouille généralisée. Lèvre très érodée (sur un tiers de la circonférence). Manque une poignée." The Palissy entry further describes this object as a bell re-modelled as stoup: "Cloche convertie en bénitier", but was quite likely a stoup originally, one of hundreds of similar design made in France in this period. The illustration above shows it on a squat stone base, probably unrelated.
