Font Notes:
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 19 September 2022) notes: "The Laurentius Church was built in the 1830s. There were two predecessing churches here, the first of which was destroyed in the Great Northern War and the second burnt to the ground in 1828. The baptismal font comes from Anseküla Church, which burnt down in 1944. It was probably made in Gotland in the 14th century and depicts fantastic animals representing evil spirits." Noted in the Visit Estonia site [https://www.visitestonia.com/en/kuressaare-st-laurence-church] [accessed 15 April 2023]: "Unique baptismal stone comes from crushed in 1944 Anseküla medieval church". Ditto in the corresponding Spotting History site [https://www.spottinghistory.com/view/503/st-lawrences-church/] [accessed 15 April 2023]: "the medieval babtismal [sic] stone from the Anseküla church destroyed in 1944." The basin is very similar to others in the Gotland series produced by the 'Fröjelgruppen' [cf. other BSI entries]
