Font Notes:
The entry for this church in the Evangelisch-lutherische Landeskirche Hannovers [https://www.kirche-bederkesa.de/gemeinde/st-jakobi-kirche/taufstein] [accessed 9 April 2023] mentions and illustrates a baptismal font made of sandstone ca. 1644 in it: "Der pokalförmige Taufstein aus Sandstein ist ein Prunkstück dieser Kirche. Er wurde ca. 1644 geschaffen und stand bereits in der Vorgängerkirche." The same source shows the modern font here, and informs that parishioners can choose between the two to have their infants baptised; it gives Mathies (1998) as reference. Although the font bears an inscription below the upper rim of the basin we found no entry for Bad Bederkesa in the Deutschen Inschriften Online; the inscription appears to be a version of Matthew 28:19-20, perhaps from Luther's Bible of 1545? The coat of arms on the font is probably that of councilman [Ratsherrn] Jakob Hüneken: "Am Becken und Fuß des Taufpokals sind Fruchtwerk, Engelsköpfe und ein Wappen, wahrscheinlich des Stifters Ratsherrn Jakob Hüneken, erkennbar." Font cover of brass; modern.
