Church Notes: present church of 1684 built on a site with previous buildings; a church was first documented in 1234, when King Heinrich von Hohenstaufen donated it to the Kreuzritterorden der Lazariter, who served also as parishc priests; transferred to the Augustinians of Interlaken abbey in 1272; much damaged by floods and re-built in the 14th and 15thC, and until its re-building in 1684;

The Wikipedia entry for this church [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sankt_Michaelskirche_(Meiringen)] [accessed 9 April 2023] reports a baptismal font in it made of sandstone towards the middle of the 14th century; the embossed copper cover was made in 1949 and has a Haslia eagle as finial: "Der gotische Taufstein aus Sandstein in der Form eines Kelches dürfte um die Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts angefertigt worden sein. Es ist der älteste Gegenstand in der Kirche von 1684. Eine aus getriebenem Kupfer mit einem Hasliadler geschmückte Beckenabdeckung aus dem Jahre 1949 ergänzt diesen historischen Gegenstand in idealer Weise. Die Chronik berichtet, dass der Taufstein im Jahre 1597 aus der Mitte der Kirche versetzt und 1684 in den Chor verlegt wurde."
