The Visit Gemona site [https://visitgemona.com/en/discover/art-and-culture/gemona-cathedral/] [accessed 4 April 2023] describes and illustrates a baptismal font in the cathedral, a re-cycled 2nd-century sarcophagus partly re-carved in the 11th-12th century: "baptismal font made from an ancient Roman monument dating back to the first or second century of the Christian era, preserving a relief carving of a winged genius riding a dolphin. The font was decorated with two baptismal scenes and a copy of the Roman relief in the eleventh to twelfth century." The two narrow sides of the object were done in the 11th-12thC; the carvings represent different versions of the baptismal ritual. After the 1976 earthquake the font was re-purposed as an altar base.
