A crocketed Gothic arch on each of the eight panels rests on pinnacled columns at the angles of the octagon; although one of the visible figures does appear to represent St James the Greater in pilgrim's garb, several of the figures on the basin, however, are not Apostles, but clearly tonsured monks [cf. ImagesArea]; the shields on the splaying octagonal base are blank, but may have been originally painted. The cover is of a later period.
