Noted and illustrated in Taufsteine & Taufbecken in Kärnten [https://docplayer.org/80520500-Kaernten-slowenien-friaul-taufsteine-taufbecken.html] [accessed 3 April 2023] as a baptismal font of the early-16th century decorated with figures of the Apostles on the side, and shields on the base: "Der achtseitige Taufstein vom Anfang des 16. Jahrhunderts zeigt Tartschen am Fuß und Apostelreliefs unter Kielbogen am Becken. Der Deckel stammt aus späterer Zeit." A crocketed Gothic arch on each of the eight panels rests on pinnacled columns at the angles of the octagon; although one of the visible figures does appear to represent St James the Greater in pilgrim's garb, several of the figures on the basin, however, are not Apostles, but clearly tonsured monks [cf. ImagesArea]; the shields on the splaying octagonal base are blank, but may have been originally painted. The cover is of a later period.
