Scene Description: Source caption: "Annaberg-Buchholz, St. Annenkirche: Die St. Annenkirche in Annaberg-Buchholz ist eine Hallenkirche an der Schwelle zwischen Spätgotik und Renaissance und mit 65 Metern Länge und 40 Metern Breite die größte reine Hallenkirche der Spätgotik in Sachsen. Der Turm ist 78 Meter, der Innenraum der Kirche 28 Meter hoch. Sie ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt und weithin sichtbar. Die St. Annenkirche wurde ursprünglich ab 1499 als katholisches Gotteshaus errichtet. 1539 wurde sie evangelisch-lutherisch."

The entry for this church in the Kirchgemeinde Annaberg-Buchholz [https://www.kirche-annaberg-buchholz.de/m/seite/232462/sankt-annenkirche.html] [accessed 31 March 2023] informs that the baptismal font here was made by Hans Witten in the 1520s, received in the church from former monastey property in 1556: "Aus ehemaligem Klosterbesitz bekam die St. Annenkirche 1556 den Taufstein (um 1515 für das Chemnitzer Kloster) und 1576 die Schöne Tür (1512 für das Annaberger Kloster geschaffen), beides Werke von Hans Witten." The present font consists of a multi-lobed basin supported on a pedestal base in the shape of a twisted tree trunk with figures (putti and angels) around the base, some holding inscribed scrolls; there is also a running inscription on the upper rim of the basin; painted and gilded.
