A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 7 November 2025) informs: "Braine-l’Alleud, église Saint-Etienne. 1113 : First mention of the parish and its church. A document tells us that Godfrey I, Duke of Brabant, and his son, Godfrey, ceded "Dudinsart," located in the parish of Braine-l'Alleud, to the Abbey of Gembloux. A remnant of a Romanesque chancel wall was discovered during construction work in 1963. 1550 : Raising or straightening of the transept columns, marked by a mallet on the shaft of a half-column in the north transept arm. 1742 : Enlargement of the church, indicated on a corbel to the north of the nave. 1762-1763 : Reconstruction of the tower. Building of the rood screen, dates inscribed respectively on a niche in the tower and on the vault of the rood screen. 1815 : The church served as a field hospital after the Battle of Waterloo, treating the wounded from both sides. Typical octagonal limestone 17th century Hainaut-type font on baluster column. Brass lid hangs on a cable.
