Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Bilbao (1994) as a beautiful baptismal font of the Gothic period ornamented with popular motifs as well as those of remote Mudéjar influence; the basin is roughly hemispherical and has a band of round arcade of twenty-four round arches all around the upper basin side; below it the basin side is divided into a number (six?) of quadrangular frames inside which is a large motif or symbol: a 8-point star, a 6-point star, a 5-point star, a 4-petal flower, a fortress with three towers and the quatrefoil interlace motif found in medieval Scandinavian art. The base consists of a central column with four constructional shafts, all with roll mouldings at top and bottom; the lower base is a play on the cushion capital shape, square and with arches per side. Bilbao (ibid.) cites entries in the Catálogo Monumental de la Diócesis de Vitoria, López de Guereñu and Portilla. The Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/alava_NARBAIZA.pdf] [accessed 13 February 2023] describes and illustrates the late-medieval baptismal font decorated with some motifs of Mudéjar influence: "La pila bautismal es un bello ejemplar del bajo medievo.
