Noted in the Wetzlarer Dom site [http://www.dbv-wetzlar.de/mobil/g06.html] [accessed 16 December 2022] as a monolithic baptismal font made of basaltic scoria in the 12th century, originally from the earlier church here, and now located in the Nikolauskapelle of the cathedral: "Taufstein. In der Nikolauskapelle neben dem Chor treffen Sie auf das älteste Ausstattungsstück der Kirche, den Taufstein. Er stammt noch aus der romanischen Vorgängerkirche und ist im 12. Jahrhundert aus einem einzigen Block eines blasigen vulkanischen Gesteins („Lungenstein“) gearbeitet worden. Sein Umfang oben beträgt vier Meter. Ein einfacher Fries aus doppelten Hufeisenbögen schmückt den Taufstein." Low-dome shaped metal font cover; appears modern.
