Large fragments of an octagonal baptismal font believed to be of the Gothic period/style were excavated at the Sinte-Gitter [archaeological site]; the surviving fragments indicate an octagonal shaped basin with four bulges [not heads] set at 90-degree angles; the inside of the basin is round; the material appears to be bluish limestone; there is no base or cover. [cf. BSI entry for Landen for a font of the 15th century in the 18th-century church there] A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 29 July 2022) provided much of the information and links above, and added: "the shape of the basin of the old gothic font seems unusual. I cannot yet match it with other fonts. Also, I do not really see heads, but bulges. This is something that you can observe on other Mosan fonts, maybe it reduced the costs. The font of Mont is an example."
