The entry for this church in Wikipedia [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Stephan_(Marktsteft)] [accessed 10 November 2022] with information footnoted to Hans Bauer's Landkreis Kitzingen. Ein Kunst- und Kulturführer (Marktbreit 1993): 94, reports: The church received the baptismal font through a foundation. On March 22, 1626, the pastor Georg Merk brought the baptismal font here. In 1738 the artist Nikolaus Lender from Marktbreite was commissioned to coat the baptismal font with pewter [NB: inside the basin?]. The Renaissance baptismal font, which stood in front of the altar until 1868, has a bulbous base decorated with acanthus. After that it was placed sideways. The baptismal font is flanked by four angels' heads. A header contains inscriptions and the donor's coat of arms. The stonemason's mark of master Erhard Schilling can also be seen.
