Listed and illustrated in Otto Bocher's DIE ENTWICKLUNG DES LÖWENTAUFSTEINS IN DER HESSISCHEN UND RHEINFRÄNKISCHEN GOTIK [https://www.worms.de/neu-de-wAssets/docs/bildung-bieten/Stadtarchiv/Wormsgau/Der-Wormsgau-5-1961-1962/Nr.3_bd.5WG_-5.-Band.pdf] [accessed 5 November 2022] as a baptismal font of the "Lilien-Maßwerk-Typus" in Zell bei Alsfeld bearing an inscription in Gothic miniscules on the cylindrical basin: "Anno. d[o]m[ini _ m° . cccc° . lxxxviii . completu[m] . e[st] . hoc . op[us] . i[n] . die . lucie . virg[inis]"; this same source gives the measurements of the font. The Stadt Romrod Chronik Zell 2022 web site [https://www.romrod.de/stadtgeschichte/chronik-zell/] [accessed 5 November 2022] reports the acquisition of a new baptismal font in 1488; ca. 1845 that font was discarded from the church and used as planter in the nearby Billertshausen vicarage garden; restored to the church in 1899. The font consists of a roughly cylindrical basin with a running inscription in Gothic lettering, the date in Roman numerals [cf. supra]; the sides below the inscription have a deeply-carved arcade of trefoiled arches the supports on which end in inverted lillies; a roll moulding marks the befinning of the underbowl below; plain circular splaying base. No cover present. [cf. BSI entry for the Billertshausen's own font]
