The picture of a baptismal font is captioned "Taufstein von Dobin, gefunder in der Döpe" appears on p, 338 of Die Kunst- und Geschichts-Denkmäler des Grossherzogthums Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Im Auftrage des Grossherzoglichen Ministeriums des Inneren, Herausgegeben von der Commission zur Erhaltung von Denkmäler II. Band Die Ämtsgerichtsbezirke Wismar, Grevesmühlen, Rehna, Gadebusch und Schwerin, Bearbeitet von Professor Dr. Friedlich Schlie, Museumsdirektor und Hofrath (1898). The font consists of a tub-shaped basin with plain sides and a rounded underbowl, raised on an odd-looking base with a stem decorated with round arches, and several (6? / 8?) grotesque or deformed human heads on the lower base. A communicattion from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 11 July 2022) states: "Although some authors doubt it, I think this is the font that is standing in the garden of the Schloss Willigrad. Pol Herman adds the reference to the 1898 source above, as well as other information related to the font and associated claims from assorted sources: "In 1770 or 1775, at the village Hohen Viecheln, a baptismal font was dredged up from the lake Döpe. The carved decoration on the base was interpreted as showing eight Slavic heads. The font therefore became linked to a legend about the violent baptism of the local Slavic population in 1148. In the spring of 1148, crusaders advanced into the Wendenland in two battle groups; one party advanced against Dobin castle, the other against Demin. On Internet you will find websites that question the legendary link between the font and the events in 1148, but also websites that continue to state it as a fact. You will find websites that pretend that the font has since been lost. Others describe that it went to the Friedrich-Universität Bützow, that it was later transferred in the private garden of Oskar Glorius Stötzer at Bützow, and that duke Johann Albrecht installed it in the park of his castle Willigrad in 1898."
