Church Notes: medieval church devastated by fire 1718; re-built in Baroque style 1719
Christian Wendt's article Rätselraten um "Findling" hat ein Ende in the 21 September 2009 edition of the TorgauerZeitung [https://www.torgauerzeitung.com/Default.aspx?t=NewsDetailModus(44641)] [accessed 26 October 2022] informs of the new learned details about a medieval font found earlier, that there appears to be 99.9% certainty that the font is the one from the medieval church at Großtreben: "Wir sind uns zu 99,9 Prozent sicher, dass der Taufstein aus der Großtrebener Kirche stammt“, sagt Heidemarie Götze von der Kirchengemeinde Großtreben-Dautzschen"; this source further notes that when the parish church was devastated by a fire in 1718 it was re-built in the Baroque style and a new font of a matching design was introduced and the medieval one somehow ended in nearby Dautzschen, about two kilometers away the medieval font was later moved back to its original location. The object is a large cauldron-shaped basin decorated with a row of round arch-heads, each one containing a motif looking like a swirl; base missing; badly dramaged with through cracks when found [may have been repaired later]. No cover present.
