The same source notes that the pastor, Philipp Staak, suggested that the font may have been made localy, probably on the banks of the Peene, from imported Gotland sandstone; he further noted that there were traces of rust around the outer perimeter of the basin where anchoring for a cover may have existed;, and added there was no drain hole in the basin bottom. Matthew Diekhoff's article 'Rarität in Boldekower Kirche kann jetzt saniert werden: 700 Jahre alter Taufstein [https://www.nordkurier.de/anklam/raritaet-in-boldekower-kirche-kann-jetzt-saniert-werden-0340908010.html] [accessed 14 October 2022] informs that the font damage will be restored with governmental funds and shows the font already re-set and waiting for its restoration. [NB: the Wikipedia entry for Kirche Boldekow [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirche_Boldekow] [accessed 14 October 2022] mistakingly gives the material of the font as granite: "Der Rundfuß eines mittelalterlichen Taufsteins ist aus Granit", although it cites the source as the above article which identifies the material as Gotland sandstone].
