Church Notes: medieval church in the lower village was demolished in the 17thC; present St Mauritius church was built 1721 as Burgkapelle of the Freiherrn von Geldern; tower added 1935; restored 1960s;
Medieval font discovered buried under the flooring of the church, together with the foundations of the Baroque church tower here. Noted and illustrated in Eifel Kirchen [https://www.eifelkirchen.com/Bachem/Bachem.htm] [accessed 8 October 2022]: "ein gewaltiger, romanischer Taufstein aus dem 12./13. Jahrhundert mit einem neuzeitlichen Deckel." The font is a quasi-cylindrical basin raised on three stumps; it has a row of roumd arch heads around the upper side, a processional Greek cross in one of them. Dome-shaped metal cover, modern as indicated above.
