Listed and illustrated in Solhaug (2001) as the base (stem and lower base) surviving from a 13th-century baptismal font made of limestone and imported from Gotland; the upper end of the pedestal base shows a centre drain hole. No cover present. Mentioned in Gravgaver [https://www.gravgaver.no/gotland-dopefonter.htm] [accessed 2 October 2022] as one of twelve medieval fonts imported from Gotland into Norway: "Borre (av kummen er kun fragmenter bevart), Eidanger (kun fot), Fon (nederste del av kummen), Hidra (skaft og fot), Holmedal (skaft og fot), Hvaler, Nøtterøy (kun underdel), Ramnes (skaft og fot, fire hoder skyter ut fra vulsten), Sannidal, Sæbø, Tanum, Våle." The entry for this church in Norges Kirker [https://norgeskirker.no/wiki/Holmedal_kirke#D.C3.B8pefont] [accessed 3 October 2022] describes two fonts in this church, the medieval remains beside the pulpit, and the later wooden font in use in the chancel: "Rester av middelaldersk døpefont under prekestolen. Kalkstein. Består av fot og skaft. Rund fot med loddrett standkant som går over i grunn hulfas. Meget avslått. Skaft konisk med vulst nederst. Blekrød stein med feltspatårer. Et annet steinslag enn foten. H. fot 23 cm. H. skaft 36.3 cm. Nedre diam. 28 cm. Øvre diam. 33 cm." The present font in use is modern, octagonal in shape and with a small metal baptismal dish atop.
