Scene Description: Mérimée [ref.: PA00094046]: "Reconstruite au début du 16e siècle, l'église conserve le tympan sculpté du portail roman, reposé au-dessus du portail neuf. Il a été encadré de trois corbeaux représentant des Evangélistes, et placé au-dessus d'un médaillon carré renfermant une série mutilée. Le tympan représente le Christ bénissant qui forme le motif central, encadré de trois apôtres à sa droite et autant à sa gauche. Cette sculpture en grès est un document important comme jalon pour l'étude de la sculpture romane dans la vallée du Lot."

Baptismal font of the 14th century made of sandstone listed in Palissy [ref.: PM12001021] [https://www.pop.culture.gouv.fr/notice/palissy/PM12001021] [accessed 11 September 2022]: "Fonts baptismaux (cuve baptismale) [...] Grès : taillé [...] 14e siècle [...] Entrée de l'église, à gauche". The font is noted and illustrated in Premier Millénaire [http://millenaire1.free.fr/408_9_74_lassouts_st_jacques.html] [accessed 11 September 2022]: "c'est la première fois que nous rencontrons des fonts baptismaux polylobés à huit lobes". An area of the upper basin shows evidence of having been cut ot trimmed, probably to fit the font in tight spot or against a wall. No cover present but there is evidence on the upper rim of damage caused by an anchoring from an old cover [cf. ImagesArea]. The octafoiled shape of the inner basin only reaches about half way down; the rest is round.
