The entry for Teuchern, St. Georgii in the Deutsches Inschriften Online [https://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0238-di062l001a1001105] [DI 62: Weißenfels (Landkreis) (2005) A1, Nr. 11] [accessed 4 September 2022] lists and illustrates a baptismal font of octagonal made of sandstone and dated 1542 by an inscription; scenes on the octagonal basin panels include the Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, Cricumcision, Adoration of the Magi, Flight to Egypt, Presentation at the Temple and Baptism of Chrsit in the Jordan; six pairs of angels decorate six of the sides of the underbowl chamfer; a reio of putti decorate the seventh [NB: they look like putti but they have wings], while the eighth has the date 1542 carved on it; the octagonal stem of the pedestal base has a large circular low-dome motif on each side: "Achtseitiger Taufstein aus Sandstein, bestehend aus einer Kuppa mit gerader Wandung, einem abgesetzten und ei ngezogenen Unterteil und einem kurzen stämmigen Fuß mit einem Buckel auf jeder Seite. An den acht, durch Säulchen abgesetzten Außenseiten des Taufbeckens derbe Reliefs mit der Verkündigung, der Heimsuchung, der Geburt, der Beschneidung, der Anbetung der Könige, der Darbringung im Tempel, der Flucht nach Ägypten und der Taufe Christi im Jordan. An sechs Seiten des Unterbaus je ein Engelpaar, an der siebten Seite drei Putten und an der achten die flächig ausgehauene Jahreszahl [...] Maße: H.: 107 cm; D.: 107,5 cm; Bu.: 14–16 cm. [...] Die Jahreszahl vermerkt wohl das Entstehungsjahr der Taufe." The base appears to be a modern replacement. No cover present.
