Scene Description: notice the damage to the upper rim on this side (there is a similar knotch on the opposite side), surely caused by the metal staple from an old cover anchor -- notice also the drainage hole drilled into the bottom-right corner of the basin, likely made to allow proper drainage for the planter function!

An object used as baptismal font, among many other uses, is reported outside the south entrance to the church in Die wechselhafte Geschichte eines Steinkessels [https://web.archive.org/web/20160415054841/http://stmartin.kirche-burgwedel-langenhagen.de/der-taufstein.html] [accessed 8 October 2022], in the Evangelisch-lutherische Martinskirchegemeinde Engelbostel-Schulenburg; it had been found buried in the vicarage and was used to stored slaked lime, and later as drinking trough for cattle; the son of the than pastor engraved his name "E. Brecht" [between 1853 and 1910]on the upper rim; later, until 1942, it was used as water trough in the vicary; in 1942 it was brought to the present location and given a base by 'Maurermeister' Heinrich Deiters. No cover present. [NB: the old font remains now [October 2022] outside the church, by its south side, but it is still used for baptisms [cf. ImagesArea].
A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 27 June 2022) provided some of the sources for the above informationa and the corresponding photographs; additionally an article in the 25 May 2010 edition of the “ECHO, Ihre vertraute Wochenzeitung” [https://www.extra-verlag.de/langenhagen/c-lokales/taufe-im-gruenen_a3194] [accessed 8 October 2022] was also included [in translation]: "Baptism in the green. Old Romanesque baptismal font was reconsecrated. The old Romanesque baptismal font decorated with flowers in front of the Martinskirche in Langhagen-Engelbostel was inaugurated in bright sunshine on Whitsunday. To the sounds of the organ, Pastor Lothar Podszus left the church with the large congregation to baptize Melina Mißner, Taliah Kirca and Henja Voßschulte outside under the freshly planted linden trees and the birch cross. The historic baptismal font, which was put up again in 1942 by the chairman of the local history association, Wilhelm Hirte, has before served as a bucket for mixing lime or as a catchment basin for rainwater at the vicarage. As part of the replanting of the lime tree avenue in front of the church, the entire church forecourt in Engelbostel was redesigned. The baptismal font was also rebuilt and given a specially designed place. The "Baptism in the Green" has been taking place in Langenhagen for more than ten years on Pentecost Sunday. This year, Pastor Lothar Podszus regretted, there was still a lack of green because the newly seeded lawn hadn't really grown yet. However, that did not detract from the festive joy on Pentecost Sunday."
