Church/Chapel: Urnes stavkirke / Urnes stavkyrkje
Church Location: 104, 6870 Ornes, Norway
Country Name: Norway
Location: Vestland, Vestlandet
Directions to Site: Located off road 5637, in the municipality of Luster, on a small peninsula of the Lustrafjorden, in the Sognefjorden.
Ecclesiastic Region: [Diocese of Bjørgvin]
Century and Period: 11th - 12th century, Romanesque
Church Notes: 11th-12thC church
A baptismal font dated to 1640 in this church is mentioned in some uncorroborated sources; what they probably refer to is the baptismal dish of metal that is wall-mounted in the north side of the chancel. There is a drawing of a wooden font cover from this church [cf. ImagesArea]; it is of a domed quatrefoiled shape, decorated with rope moulding between the lobes [some of the decoration missing], and a hole in the centre, presumably for the finial or handle.
