The Bulletin de la commission des antiquités de la Seine-Inférieure ..., Volume 6 (1882-1884) p. 219, among matters dealt with a the 22 March 1883 meeting, reports on a lecture delivered by "M. Brianchon" about his visit to the parish church of Raffetot, in which he refers to the need, among others, to protect the valuable baptismal font of this church by a railing, as recommended by the parish priest. The font itself appears not to be listed among the objects inside the church but the coat of arms on the font is identified in Mérimée [ref.: IA76000741] [https://www.pop.culture.gouv.fr/notice/merimee/IA76000741] [accessed 4 August 2022] as "Armoiries de la famille de Canouville : de gueules à 3 molettes d'or". the entry further notes: "En 1607, Charles de la Roverye, curé de Raffetot donne une verrière pour cette chapelle et les fonts baptismaux en 1608." The font appears as "Objet classé N° PM76001307 FONTS BAPTISMAUX in 76.monvillagenormand.fr/ [https://76.monvillagenormand.fr/ObjetHisto.php?NumObjetHisto=PM76001307] [accessed 4 August 2022] as "fonts baptismaux représentant l'enfance du Christ XVIIe." without further detail. It apears in Brisson Charles. Répertoire des monuments classés et inscrits à l'inventaire des objets mobiliers classés et inscrits à l'inventaire départemental et des sites et monuments classés et inscrits à l'inventaire supplémentaire dans le département de la Seine-Maritime. In: Études Normandes, livraison 58, n°188, 1er trimestre 1966. Répertoire des monuments classés et inscrits à l'inventaire des objets mobiliers classés et inscrits à l'inventaire départemental et des sites et monuments classés et inscrits à l'inventaire supplémentaire dans le département de la Seine-Maritime. pp. 1-52; doi : https://doi.org/10.3406/etnor.1966.1301 [https://www.persee.fr/doc/etnor_0014-2158_1966_num_58_188_1301] [accessed 4 August 2022] noted as "Fonts baptismaux, pierre, 1602". The font consists of an octagonal basin with tapering sides dcorated with a single shield bearing the coat of arms of the Canouville family [cf. supra] on one side, the other seven sides containing scenes of the Childhood of Christ: Annunciation to Mary, Nativity, Circumcision [NB: the officiating cleric wearing a bishop's hat?], Adoration of the Magi, Annunciation to the Shepherds, Nativity, Flight to Egypt; outside of the cycle is the scene of the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan; raised on a plain polygonal pedestal base. The wooden cover is octagonal, flat and plain; appears modern.
