A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 21 March 2022) notes: "At the NOM Nederlands Openlucht Museum is another medieval mortar that was used as a stoup. It was in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, but was transferred to the NOM museum. It is a Romanesque Mosan mortar from “a” Carthusian monastery at Roermond. The museum specifies “hardstone”, but in analogy to other mortars, it is probably Mosan micaceous sandstone of Westphalian type from Liège or surroundings (F. Tourneur, University of Liège). This mortar has typical schematic heads on the corners, and a frieze with oblique lines."
