Font Notes:
Noted and illustrated in the Deutsche Inschriften Online, DI 66, Lkr. Göttingen, Nr. 101 (Sabine Wehking), in: www.inschriften.net, https://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0238-di066g012k0010103 [accessed 14 July 2022] as a baptismal font of which only the upper part of the hexagonal basin has survived its use as drinking trough for cattle until 1934; a pair of very irregular blind trefoiled windows or arches decorates each side of the basin; remains of an inscription carved on the upper rim have survived: "Anno · d(omi)ni · [....]viii · [..] · [ – – – ] · borch", part of it enhanced now in black paint; the source points out that the words "von der" that precede "borch" are, unlike the others, just drawn in black paint, not carved in the stone. The top of the basin fragment is now raised on a modern underbowl and base. [NB: the DIO entry [cf. supra?] suggests a possible 15th-century date for the font fragment but, given the shape (hexagonal) of the basin, it is more likely of a later date, despite its crude nature].
