Noted in Josef Bernhard Nordhoff's Die Kunst- und Geschichts-Denkmäler des Kreises Warendorf, Münster: 1886, S. 131. Entry no. 41 in the Heimatverein Sendenhorst e.V. *1925 [https://www.heimatvereinsendenhorst.de/geschichte-n/archivgeschichten/] [accessed 10 July 2022] by B. Facsies notes that the baptismal font, which adorned the former parish church in Sendenhorst for almost 300 years, has been in the parish church in Westkirchen since 1871. It is artfully made from old Baumberger limestone. The hemispheric basin has an octagonal upper rim that is ca. 30 cm wide; the basin itself is 87 cm wide; on the basin sides is Hyeronymus Hoherte's coat of arms, donor of the font, and the date 1588, supposedly the date of the donation, and four cherub heads set at 90-degree angles; additionally the font bears an inscription in Low German: "Ein Herr ein gelowe / Ein Tauff ein gode"; the base consists of a broad central round shaft decorated with a honeycomb pattern and mouldings, and four slender colonnettes with capitals and bases. Noted in Franz Flaskamp's Hieronymus Hogeherte, seine Taufsteinstiftung für Sendenhorst, S. 220. In: Westfalen 43, 1965, Bd. 3–4, S. 220–222, who suggests the identification of the donor. The font is said to be originally from the old medieval parish church of Sendenhorst, which was badly damaged by a fire in 1806 and later demolished, and replaced by the present church of Sendenhorst St. Martin's in 1865. A REPLICA FONT: Christiane Husmann's article Ein Taufstein mit Geschichte in the Bürgerstiftung Sendenhorst Albersloh [http://www.buergerstiftung-sendenhorst-albersloh.de/foerdermassnahmen-und-projekte/ein-taufstein-mit-geschichte.html] [accessed 10 July 2022] reports the making of a replica copy of the baptismal font in St- Laurentiuskirche, Westkirchen, a font that had originated in the old parish church of Sedenhorst [before the present St. Martinskirche in Sendenhorts replace it]. The replica copy made of Altmühltal limestone by sculptor Bernd Höne will stand in the 'Kirchgrün' at Westkirchen; the sculptor noted that it being a very porous limestone, the font should soak and release the rain water when exposed in the outdoors [NB: except if it freezes and cracks the stone!]
