Font Notes:
A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 19 March 2022) informs about two 19th-century sources that refer to a baptismal font in the earlier church here: 1) GESCHIEDENIS VAN NOORDBRABANT Door Peter Norbertus Panken te Bergeik, vernieuwd en gerangschikt, 1898, Stichting Cultureel Brabant (CuBra), gedigitaliseerd door Johan Biemans, Page 26 : An old baptismal font, a missal and a candle holder still exist, all from before the Reformation. 2) Handelingen van het provinciaal genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen in Noordbrabant, over het jaar 1859, ’s Hertogenbosch, Gebroeders Muller, Uitgevers van het Genootschap, 1859. Page 42 : "The former head teacher Panken described the font of Lage-Mierde to me. In a letter dated October 4, 1856, this able historian informed me that he had found such baptismal fonts in the churches of Vessem, Diessen, Middelbeers, Bladel, Netersel and Casteren, which are now used as holy water fonts." The present font in Casteren's RC church [cf. ImagesArea] is modern, made of brass, with a matching cover.
