Font Notes:
An inventory of 1790 noted in R. Meischke's Amsterdam. Het R.C. Maagdenhuis en het St. Elisabeth-gesticht (Den Haag: Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg, Zeist / Staatsuitgeverij 1980) mentions a number of objects that must have come from the old church: in the confessional room there was an 'artfully worked porcelain Baptismal Font'. The building not only housed an orphnage but also a church. As early as 1590, the house where the girls then lived had a prayer room or private chapel. There was also a priest who often stayed in the house and who was in charge of the small community. The house chapel grew into a church with its own priest. Due to frequent renovations of the Maagdenhuis, no remains of this chapel have been found for decades, and there is no trace of this font.
