Church Notes: church (wooden) first noted 1069 in deed; first stone church probably built ca. 1390; present church chiefly mid-15thC
The present font consists of an octagonal basin decorated with a torus-scotia-pattern all around below the upper rim, raised on an octagonal pedestal base and a lower base or plinth, also polygonal; the basin appears original, the two-part base perhaps a modern replacement. The font cover is a low dome with an orb-and-cross finial.
A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 9 February 2022) notes: According to Handelingen van het provinciaal genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen in Noordbrabant, over het jaar 1859, ’s Hertogenbosch, Gebroeders Muller, Uitgevers van het Genootschap, 1859, I would expect at Diessen a font like Lage-Mierde (now at Sint-Oedenrode) at Diessen. In a letter from Peter Norbertus Panken, dated 4th of October 1856, Panken writes that he has encountered similar fonts (similar to Lage-Mierde) at Vessem, Diessen, Middelbeers, Bladel, Netersel and Casteren.
