Head fragments from the baptismal fonts at Doomelen and Knegsel are studied and illustrated in Jelle Dekker's 'Ongelofelijk: Fragmenten van middeleeuwse dopfonten uit Dommelen en Knegsel [Dommelen en Knegsel.pdf] in AWN 23, Nieuwsbrief Archeologie Kemper en Peeland, jaargang 3, nr. 2, april 1999: The fragment of Knegsel was found in January 1997 during the digging of a burial pit in the current cemetery of Knegsel. The site is located where the Roman Catholic barn church of Knegsel stood in the years 1688-1926. The head shows that the baptismal font was completely polished. It is striking that the back of the hood is completely flat. This will indicate that this fragment of the original baptismal font was sawn and may subsequently have had an ornamental function. According to information received via Pol Herman (e-mail of 5 January 2022) the fragment was found in the cemetery and its likely provenance is the Monulfus and Gondulfus church, destroyed in 1688.
