Church Notes: Parochies Beesel [https://www.parochiesbeesel.nl/index.php/geschiedenis-beesel] [accessed 28 December 2021] notes: We can assume that the first church building was built in the 12th century. When the old church was demolished in 1840, a beam was found in the tower with the inscription “We van Elmpt built that church anno 1157” [...] The first church stood in the middle of the cemetery in Ouddorp. This church has had several renovations, until a new building was placed in 1840, where the present Gertrudikerk of 1925 now stands
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 14 December 2021) informs that the 16th century bluestone baptismal font now in the St. Gertrudis Church in Beesel previously stood in the church in Ouddorp, which was demolished around 1840. The Loe Giesen site [http://www.loegiesen.nl/toponiemen/BEESEL-K.htm#Gertrudiskerk] [accessed 28 December 2021] reports the discovery of a fragment of a limestone baptismal font suggesting an early church also at Beesel [cf. BSI entry for Beesel No. 2 for the fragment on the early font here]].
