The fragment of a late-Medieval(?) baptismal font is noted and illustrated in Heemkundekring 'de Heerlijkheid Heeze-Leende-Zesgehuchten' [https://www.heemkundekring-hlz.nl/projecten/kerkepad] [accessed 22 December 2021]. It is said to have been the baptismal font of the original late-15th century chapel. A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 8 December 2021) notes: "In 1487 the first chapel was built along the path to the church at Zesgehuchten. It was in 1487 when pastor Arnoldus Demers walked for the first time with the carrying altar over a sandy path from Geldrop to the chapel on Riel. The chapel was dedicated to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, Saint Anthony and Saint Sebastian an it had no fewer than three altars. The pastor probably died in 1512 in the church fire at Geldrop. The chapel was destroyed by fire in 1512 and rebuilt in 1520. The chapel was served by the Augustin Fathers. The chapel came into the hands of the Protestants in 1648 and was no longer used from about 1660. After having served as a school for a while, it fell into disrepair. The chapel was demolished in the 18th century and all traces of it have since disappeared. The sandy path that the pastor (a “paap”) used is known as the Kerkepad. In 2008, a new modest chapel was built. The chapel was a wish of the residents of Riel for many years. A small niche has been provided inside, which accommodates the baptismal font that is said to come from the chapel of the Augustins."
