Font Notes:
A baptismal font consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin and a pedestal base is noted and illustrated in Włodzimierz GodleWski's BUILDING H.NW.B.I AND ITS SUCCESSIVE CONSTRUCTION PHASES, in Dongola 2015-2016: fieldwork, conservation and site management (Warsaw: University of Warsaw Press, 2018) [https://wuw.pl/data/include/cms/Dongola_2015-2016_Fieldwork_2018.pdf] [accessed 21 December 2021]; the source also writes of a possible disappeared font of an earlier period (6th-7th century) on a discover in room NE.2: "the omposition of the wall painting on the east wall of this room, a representation of the Baptism of Christ, is attributable to the 6th century [...] A structure underneath the painting, possibly a baptismal font, may be associated with the beginnings of Christianity in Dongola. However, the structure was removed in a later period and only modest traces of it remain on the walls in the northeastern corner of the room [...] The rooms lack furnishings with the exception of NE.2, the northeastern corner of which holds vestiges of a tall structure (possibly a baptismal font, see above)".
