Baptismal font noted and illustrated by Jan van Dongen Jr. in the entry for this church in Van Bouwen en Sieren, No. 15 (August 1932): 226-233 [Steenwijksmoer.pdf] [accessed 16 December 2021]: "De doopvont bestaat uiteen kalksteenen bekken dat eenige jaren ineen paardenstal doorbracht, we lieten het netjes opknappen, metselden er van staalblauwe Groninger steen een voetje onder en de loodgieter van het werk (J, Vriend) dreef de roodkoperen kap, dezelfde dreef ook het waterreservoir en morschbakje van het lavabo." The entry for this modern church in Orgels in Drenthe [https://www.orgelsindrenthe.nl/nederlands/steenmoer-kerk.html] [accessed 16 December 2021] reports a font in it that used to serve as an animal trough. The font basin, made of limestone and octagonal in shape, is said to have served as a horse trough but one of the sources noted that services in Coevorden were held for a time in a horse stable while the church was being reconstructed [source: uncorroborated].
A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 29 June 2022) notes: "The basin of the baptismal font was taken from a local farm , where it served in the stable as feeding through for the horse. It was undated and the provenance is unknown. As the architect Jan van Dongen describes in 1932, the basin was heavily restored, and therefore it will remain undatable."
