Baptismal font in the Reforme church at Tholen, said to be originally from the demolished Reformed church in Sint-Annaland, where it had been used as support for the wooden pulpit. A communication to BSI (e-mail of 3 December 2021) from Pol Herman included relevant information from several sources: 1)The pulpit, with the supporting old font (from the old Sint Annaland church prior to 1898), were moved from Sint Annaland to Tholen in 1959. During this procedure, both objects were separated, and are still located at Tholen. Sint Annaland : the area was diked in around 1476 and Sint-Annaland was founded. In 1486 a parish church was inaugurated. In 1492 a Crosier monastery was founded and in 1494 the church dedicated to Saint Anne was built, which was also used as a monastery church from 1505. The monastery was disbanded around 1550. In 1586 the church came into the hands of the Protestants. The church was demolished in 1898 and a new reformed church building was built in 1899. 2)Source : Eendrachtbode (1945-heden)/Mededeelingenblad voor het eiland Tholen (1944/45) | 1959 | 28 augustus 1959 | pagina 2. Pulpit to Tholen. The old pulpit from the reformed church was sold to Monumentenzorg some time ago. It is now being restored in Delft and will then be placed in the monumental reformed church of Tholen, namely in the part that is designated as wedding church. The support of the pulpit, consisting of an old holy water basin, also goes to Tholen. Where it once seems to have come from in one way or another. Perhaps this heavy holy water basin was donated to Sint Annaland by Tholen at ancient times, although no official documents can be found. 3)Source : Zeeuwsch Dagblad | 1960 | 29 juni 1960 | pagina 3. Foot of pulpit became baptismal font. Initially, the intention was to use the stone support of the old pulpit as a flower box in the garden of the reformed church in Sint Annaland. This support is in fact an inverted holy water basin from the previous church before 1899. Now that the old pulpit from the reformed church has been placed in the wedding church of the Reformed Kert in Tholen, the inverted holy water basin has also been given a place there, but not as a holy water basin. but as a baptismal font.
