In a communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 24 November 2021) two sources are mentioned that make reference to the discovery in 1869 of a stone font that had been buried in this church: 1)Lucinda Timmerman's Verloren en blootgelegde kerkschatten, Vijftiende-eeuwse secco’s in Sprang-Capelle: "Ook in Sprang-Capelle ontbrak eeuwenlang ieder spoor van de kerkschatt??en. Pas in 1869 wordt aan de westzijde van de kerk in Sprang-Capelle een doopvont gevonden in de grond. Van het hardstenen object resteren alleen tekeningen. Bij de ontdekking is het doopvont in twee stukken aangetroﬀen. Wellicht is het door hervormers weggeborgen, maar het is evenwel mogelijk dat de breuk reden tot begraven was. Het doopvont is spoorloos. Het doopvont had een doorsnede van bijna 90 centimeter en een hoogte van ongeveer 45 centimeter zonder voet. Met dank aan Teun Vos voor de informatie over het doopvont." 2)Leydse Courant (7 juni 1869, p. 5): "Bij het opbreken van de vloer van de hervormde kerk, om daarin enige reparaties te doen voor het herstellen van het orgel, ontdekte men een in de grond gegraven stenen doopvont van grote omvang, waarschijnlijk hier te lande ter indompeling bij de plechtigheid van de doop gebruikt." The baptismal font is now missing, but drawings of the basin have survived in the Archief NH Sprang [Inventarisnummer: 15808] [cf. ImagesArea].
