Font Notes:
The entry for this site in the Rijksmonumentenregister [https://monumentenregister.cultureelerfgoed.nl/monumenten/513584] [accessed 9 November 2021] reports a stone baptismal font originally from elsewhere ["een natuurstenen doopvont (van elders afkomstig)"] near the pond in the park. Pol Herman sent the following information to BSI (e-mail of 9 November 2021): "Source : Monumenten in Nederland, Zeeland, Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg, Zeist ; Waanders Uitgevers, Zwolle, 2003, p. 125-126). Heinkenszand. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village centre consisted of an elongated ribbon on both sides of this dike, the current Dorpsstraat. A church was built on this dyke in the Middle Ages and on the south side was the originally medieval Huis te Watervliet (demolished 1793). On the site of the current Landlust country estate (built circa 1800). Buitenplaats Landlust, Dorpsstraat 100. Since 1856, the octagonal baptismal font from the old Reformed church stands on a high stone plinth at the pond." Pol Herman adds some information on the parish church of Heinkenszand: "A chapel dedicated to Saint Blaise was built on this site in 1406. In 1458 this church was elevated to a parish church. From 1578 onwards, however, the church was used for Reformed worship. In the year 1406, John van Schengen built a chapel on his territory, which was dedicated to St. Blasius. This made local pastoral care easier. A pastor was attached to the chapel, Willem van Schengen, brother of the aforementioned Jan van Schengen. On December 30, 1458, Heinkenszand became an independent parish and the Blasiuskapel was elevated to a parish church. In October 1578 the parish church was withdrawn from Catholic worship and the church passed into the hands of the Reformed."
