Listed and illustrated in the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia [INAH], México: "Pila bautismal con relieves escultóricos" [https://mediateca.inah.gob.mx/repositorio/islandora/object/fotografia%3A323007] [accessed 12 August 2021]; the large font has a cylindrical basin decorated with a set of carved emblems, symbols and motifs, some of them inscribed in shields; among them are a crowned Marian emblem, St Francis' stigmata, the IHS emblem and some other motifs, all of them in the tequitqui style of the early colonial period in this part of Mexico, where the Franciscan iconography is interpreted by local artisans; the round pedestal base appears plain; there is a plain round cover that appears modern. Luis Ayala Ramos' Agencia MVT article of 28 January 2017 [https://mvt.com.mx/presume-tlalmanalco-la-segunda-pila-bautismal-que-hubo-en-mexico/] [accessed 12 August 2021] notes: "La segunda Pila Bautismal para evangelizar a los naturales después de la Conquista de México Tenochtitlán fue construida por los habitantes de Tlalmanalco, al mando de Fray Martín de Valencia, en el año de 1533, cuando también se terminó de construir la iglesia dedicada al santo patrono, San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, por órdenes del custodio de los primeros franciscanos que llegaron por el año de 1524. La pila bautismal se encuentra en el interior y a un costado de la iglesia de San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, donde el mismo Custodio, Fray Martín de Valencia, de los primeros 12 franciscanos que llegaron a México en el año de 1524, empezó a evangelizar a los naturales de la región [...] la Pila Bautismal de la iglesia de Tlalmanalco, estuvo más de 100 años en la Capilla Abierta del Siglo XVI, que se encuentra en el Nororiente de este conjunto conventual, después que los naturales de la región ya estaban plenamente convencidos que la religión cristiana, la pila pasó al interior de la iglesia quedando en el bautisterio, en primer lugar estuvo al frente de las puertas centrales y después a un costado del interior."
