Church Notes: mid-12thC stone church may have replaced an earlier one of wood; enlarged in late-medieval period; the 1804 renovation removed the north and south entrances and opened a single one at the west end; old church abandoned and scheduled for demolition when a new church was built in 1902; not demolished but restored and re-consecrated in 1929; old church renovated again 1960s
Font Notes:
Described in Tynell (1913-1921) as a baptismal font of sandstone in the Hörsgruppen, complete covered in a thick (1.5 cm) plaster coating; the font at the time appeared monolithic but actually was made up of a round tub-shaped basin, a quadrangular base and a middle section that turned out to be alien to the original font; it was located beneath a wooden canopy and had an octagonal, flat and plain wooden cover. The basin is noted and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936), in her section on the 'Mårtensgruppen' fonts; by the time Rydbeck photographed the basin [ca. 1930?] the font had already been cleaned up of the thick coating and restored to show the decoration on its sides. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900808F1] as a 'Mårtensgruppen' baptismal font made of sandstone in the second half of the 12th century; the SHM entry reports the basin broken up into several pieces and restored "med plastisk massa"; the SHM entry remarks on the very wide drain hole (11 cm) and notes that the font is located beneath a wooden canopy that has a back with a painting of the Baptism of Christ on it.
