Church Notes: only underground ruins remain of what is said to the oldest church in Skåne, founded ca. 990 by the Danish king Svend Tveskæg; one of 27 medieval churches in Lund; -- the name of the church, though usually called Sankt Drotten, is not certain and has been called Sankt Salvator and Sankt Trinitatis in early maps of Lund; believed to have been a parish church ca. 1150 but was later given to the Premonstratensians for use as a monastery church; later still, when the monastery was dissolved in the 14thC(?), it returned to its parochial functions; believed to have been demolished during the Reformation [source: https://kulturportallund.se/kort-om-drottens-kyrkoruin/ [accessed 1 July 2021]]
Font Notes:
Only a block of stone remains of a medieval font here; it is a characteristic base of Scanian fonts of the period around the 12th and 13th centuries, looking like a cylindrical pedestal base that is cinched by a roll moulding; like many such bases, it has a large square cut on its lower end to serve as exit drain; we have been unable to trace this fragment in any of the usual authors reporting Scanian fonts [Tynell, Rydbeck, SHM, etc.], This font [i.e., its fragment] is reported by Dan Damberg in Natur [https://skillingaryd.nu/natur/drottens-gamla-kyrkoruin-lund/] [accessed 1 July 2021]; in Mjörnmark [www.mior.se/skane/lund/drottenskyrkoruin/] [accessed 1 July 2021] with a photograph of the base. [NB: we do not have any information on the baptismal font said to have existed in the original wooden 10th-century church here, probably the oldest church in Skåne, founded ca. 990 [source: www.guidebook-sweden.com/en/guidebook/destination/drottens-kyrkoruin-underground-church-ruins-lund [accessed 1 July 2021]]
