Church Notes: early-to-mid-12thC(?) church by Mårten stenmästare; tower added ca. 1200; stone font replaced by wooden one 17thC -- church documented by Brunius (1850) before its demolition -- present church 1872-1873 but old tower retained;
Font Notes:
Noted in Brunius (1850). Noted and illustrated in Tynell (1913-1921) as a 'Holmbygruppen' baptismal font made of crinoidal limestone either from Gotland or from Skåne; Tynell reports the damaged font in the Lunds universitets historiska museum. Note in Reutersvärd (1967). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 940920F10] as a 'musselcuppstyp' baptismal font made of limestone in the second half of the 13th century, the quatrefoiled basin decorated with sixteen ribs, the pedestal base also quatrefoil-shaped; the SHM entry reports this font in the Lunds universitets historiska museum with inventory number 15587. No cover present. The present font in this church [cf. ImagesArea for details] may date from the 17th or 18th century; it is made of wood with scenes carved on the basin panels; the base of this font was modified in the first half of the 20th century; it may be by Jacob Kremberg and Statius Otto, like the pulpit and the retable.
