Church Notes: medieval [14thC?] church; modified with a west tower in the later medieval period; tower and apdse re-built 1885
Described in Tynell (1913-1921) as a baptismal font of the Munkarpsgruppen made of sandstone; the fon consists of a quadrangular basin on a moulded base of the same shape; the basin is decorated with a large arch carved in each side, a constructional columns at the corners; Tynell mentions that N.G. Bruzelius mentions in an unpublished manuscript (Lund University Library) that there was in this church a font consisting of a round basin on a quadrangular base, a design similar to the font at Uppåkra kyrka; according to Tynell this must have been a memory failure in Bruzelius' part. Tynell (ibid.) in his entry for Maglarp comments on the similarities between the two fonts. The font here is mentioned by Rydbeck (1936) in her chapter on 'palmett' fonts. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 940920F7] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the second half of the 12th century by a regional workshop; the font bears paint but it is not the original; the SHM entry gives Lunds universitets historiska museum(inv.nr. 21006) as the location of the font. No cover present. The church uses now a modern baptismal font of stone introduced in 1885.
