Church Notes: 13thC manor church; extended 17thC; modified 19thC with tower added 1811;
Noted in Fischer (1920). Noted and illustrated in Hallbäck (1959) as a composite object made from two basins of two different fonts; the basin is made of red-grey sandstone and bears a broad band of palmette motif all around; it has a centre drain and has had some repairs done; the present base was formerly a basin made of soapstone and has a moulding at the lower end [formerly its upper rim]; the drain is to a side and, like the other part, it has had repairs done. Interestingly a photograph of 1928 by Bertil Waldén [cf. ImagesArea FileNr.: 0210402013] shows the font in a reversed arrangement, with the plain soapstone basin atop and the palmette decorated basin serving as base; by the 1946 restoration of the church [cf. ImagesArea FileNr.: 0210402012] the font appears with the sandstone basin atop and the soapstone below]. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 930714F1] as a Skaragruppen [basin only] composite baptismal font consisting of two basins; the upper one [cf. supra], made of sandstone in the late-12th century and decorated with a band of the fan-palmette pattern characteristic of this group; the base is actually a basin of soapstone [cf. supra] now serving as base. No cover present.
