Church Notes: Visigothic origin still visible in the apse; destroyed by Arabs; re-built 11th-12thC using nearby Roman city materials; originally dedicated to the Virgen María.
The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 2 March 2021] notes: "Su mejor joya, sin duda, es la interesante ermita del Cristo de San Sebastián, de comienzos del siglo XII, probablemente construida sobre otra visigótica, con ábside rectangular y arcos ciegos." The listed object in this church is a holy-water stoup located inside the church, on the east side of the south entranceway; it is likely a composite object and may incorporate expolia from the nearby site of the former Roman city of Clunia Sulpitia; it consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with a broad flat moulding below the rim, raised on a round splaying larger piece with graded mouldings and a quadrangular lower base; it is obviously a jumble of unrelated stones put together as a stoup. There is no font here, nor is it clear whether or not the rural chapel ever had the liturgical functions of a chapel-of-ease. [cf. BSI entry for Coruna del Conde No. 2 for the parish church here]
