The entry for this church in Kringla [www.kringla.nu/kringla/objekt;jsessionid=7A0039AB1DEC968BDA675FAC8667DFC9?referens=raa/bbr/21400000443624] [accessed 12 January 2021]
describes the present hexagonal wooden font as made by Marcus Jäger in 1698; it was painted by Sven Wernberg; there is a running inscription painted below the upper rim; it refers to the donors of both font and cover, Andreas Strömnehr and his wife; the round base has a gilded wreath all around; the lower base is also hexagonal and painted [="Dopfunten utfördes av Marcus Jäger 1698 och målades av Sven Wernberg. Den skänktes till kyrkan av myntmästaren Andreas Strömnehr och hans hustru. Om detta berättar inskriptionen runt cuppans överkant. Ovanför funten hänger en dopfuntshimmel av samme mästare. Såväl funten som himlen har sexsidig form och är målade i brunt och svart. En förgylld lagerkrans pryder det rundade skaftet. Dopfunten är tillverkad av furuträ och ornamenten av alträ." The font in this church consists of a hexagonal basin with a rounded underbowl, raised on a spherical base decorated with a wreath all around, and a polygonal lower base; besides the illustration in Kringla [cf. supra and ImagesArea], we have located old photographs showing the font at three stages; in one [cf. ImageFileNo. 0210112045] the font appears totally devoid of paint, with a square lower base or plinth; in another [cf. ImageFileNo. 0210112044] the font has a painted basin with a painted inscription below the upper rim; the lower base is the same as in the previous photograph; in a third photograph [cf. ImageFileNo. 0210112043], dated 1934, the font appears painted all over, including the spherical base and an hexagonal lower base instead of the square one seen in the other two photographs; this one shows the painted inscription below the rim; raised above the font is a tall wooden cover profusely decorated and also bearing an inscription.
[NB: for the medieval font of this church, moved to Lödöse St Peder in 1731, see. BSI entry for Skepplanda No.1]
