Scene Description: Source caption; "Longs kyrka [...] Dopfunt, sten, 1100-talet." [NB: the copy of this photograph in the VCM Foto collection [https://digitaltmuseum.se/021017201817/longs-socken-dopfunt] [accessed 24 September 2020] is captioned "Longs socken, dopfunt [...] Fotograf Welin, Sanfrid [...] Fotografering 1954 (Före)"] [NB; the position of the two font parts here is confusing at first sight;the base is actually on top of the upturned basin; notice the drain hole in the base]

No entry found for this font in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld. A photograph taken by Sanfrid Welin before 1954 shows two stones, one upon the other, outdoors; the photo is captioned "Longs socken, dopfunt"; the two blocks, base on top of the upturned basin, constitute the medieval font of the old church at Long; the position of the two parts allows for a clear view of the drain hole in the base, which must match another such in the basin. A modern photograph by Robin Gullbrandsson shows the same font, now properly assembled, installed in the re-built church, oddly located beneath the west gallery stairs, obviously not a location that allows for its use for baptisms [the explanation is probably that there is another font [a modern one?] located at east end which is used for baptisms, whereas the medieval one is kept as a historical object related to the church].
