Baptismal font of stone consisting of a cylindrical basin with a large also cylindrical protrusion at the front; this protrusion has a tiny basin excavated in it; the base is probably a later addition made of stones cemented together. Although the double-basin fonts are common in the later centuries [16th+) in France, this one appears to be a much earlier work and the presence of the 'appendix' could be referred to other Romanesque fonts such as the one at Chirens, in Isère, or the ones at Dinas Mowddwy, Youlgreave and Odiham in Great Britain [cf. BSI entries for those], in which the appendix was probably intended to hold a candle, chrism, etc., and not, as in the later fonts, to hold or drain the baptismal water running off the infant's head. The upper rim is grooved to have a fitting font cover, and there are metal staples for anchoring a cover at the upper rim and one on the side of the basin, where the protrusion is, probably to anchor a side lock.
