Church Notes: 12thC granite church; restored 1940
Noted and illustrated in Hallbäck (1966) as a baptismal font made of sandstone ca. 1200; Hallbäck remarks that the font has occasionally been used upside down; at the time, 1966, the hemispherical half shows atop, the cylindrical half serving as base. In earlier (1896) and later photographs [cf. ImagesArea] the cylindrical half was used as basin but a photograph taken 13 July 2020 by Bert Hoflund [cf. ImagesArea] the order has been reversed again, showing the hemispherical half used as basin with the baptismal dish atop, and the cylindrical half serving as base. [NB: we do not know whether both parts are equally finished on the inside, as the inner basins are not often used in the North to hold the holy water, using instead a baptismal dish -- We don not know either whether the two parts were originally both basins from two different fonts or not]. No entry found for this font in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld.
