Scene Description: [NB: the photograph shows two fonts: 1) the medieval font from the old church at Skarstad and 2) the basin from nearby Hällum. It is confusing because the basin from Hällum appears in the photograph standing on what appears to be a round base, but that 'base' is actually the fragment of the underbowl of the Skarstad font, while its base is the round moulded object in front of it; the old basin from Hällum was returned to the site of the demolished Hällums gamla kyrka [cf. BSI entry for Hällum] where it now stands in the open air]. [cf. FontNotes].

Two fonts are reported in this church: a late-13th century font from the medieval church, and a later one from 1662. A 1925 B&W photograph by Anders Roland [cf. ImagesArea] is captioned simply "Äldre dopfunt utanför kyrkan" in the VGM Foto collection of the Västergötlands museum [https://digitaltmuseum.se/021017208209/1m16-b145110-361] [accessed 3 August 2020], but the caption for the same photograph in the KMB https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Skarstads_kyrka_-_KMB_-_16000200164995.jpg] [accessed 3 August 2020] suggests it may the old sandstone font from the old church at Hellum [="Skarstads kyrka [...] Dopfunt, sandsten, från Hellum gamla kyrka?"] [NB: the photograph shows actually two fonts, that is, the medieval font from the old church at Skarstad and the basin from nearby Hällum; it is confusing because the basin from Hällum appears in the photograph standing on what appears to be a round base; that 'base' is actually the fragment of the uderbowl of the Skarstad font, while its base is the round moulded object in front of it; the old basin from Hällum was returned to the site of the demolished Hällums gamla kyrka [cf. BSI entry for Hällum] where it now stands in the open air]. The badly-damaged font consists of the underbowl of a round basin raised on a splaying circular base decorated with a thick moulding; it is disused and located now [August 2020] at the northwest corner of the nave, by the gallery stairs. The entry for this church in Håkan Bergström's page [www.hosserudkullen.se/forskning/kyrka_gun_se_skarstad.html] [accessed 3 August 2020] reports two baptismal fonts and an additional font fragment, and states that the limestone font in use is from 1662 [="Kyrkan äger två dopfuntar och ytterligare funtfragrnent. En av funtarna är från medeltiden. Den i bruk varande dopfunten är av kalksten och tillverkad 1662."]
