Church Notes: Romanesque church f the 12thC; modified 13thC by Håkan Tanne, a well-known church builder from Gotland; Biblia-pauperum style paintings ca. 1400; modified again 16thC; paintings added by a Risingemästaren-school student or follower; re-built 18thC; interior whitewashed 1830s; restored 1942 and some paintings recovered; renovated and re-dedicated 1982
The study FLISTADS KYRKA: Kulturhistorisk inventering av kyrkobyggna der och kyrkomiljöer i Linköpings stift, Rapport dec 2005 by the Östergötlands länsmuseum [https://docplayer.se/29534609-Flistads-kyrka-flistads-socken-linkopings-kommun-linkopings-stift-ostergotlands-lan.html] [accessed 20 July 2020] reports the discovery of fragments of a stone font probably discarded in 1660s; one those was a fragment of limestone with a characteristic palmette carving was discovered in the Flistad churchyard in 1958; it is suspected to be a fragment of the Bestiarius medieval stone font of this church. Bot mentioned in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld . A report of a fragment here is also posted in the Sveriges Kulturnät's Lexikonett amanda [www.lexikonettamanda.se/show.php?aid=22570] [accessed 20 July 2020]. [NB: we have been unable to locate the whereabouts of the discovered fragment; it may still be in the parish church]. The present font in this church is modern, probably of the 18th-century renovation of the church; it is made of wood, and consists of a miniscule round basin on a moulded baluster-shape pedestal base; painted. Metal baptismal dish. No cover present.
